1) BILLING BASIS
All billings are charged as "Labor" using a rate evaluated yearly by the Business Office. For those accounts with labor subsidy, billings are subsidized at the current subsidy rate. Users outside the College may be subject to surcharges determined by University policy. Current College of Chemistry policy prevents our putting prices on the web-page. Hard-copy of the dollar rates is available in room 32 Lewis.
2) SERVICE STRUCTURES
Service structure determinations will be billed at 11.5 hrs per structure. This includes selection of as good a crystal as possible, data collection, refinement of all atoms to the limit of what is reasonable based on the number and quality of the data collected. An experimental writeup and brief analysis of the structure, tables of atomic parameters, distances and angles and structure factors will be compiled and presented in hardcopy and in diskette format.
If problems occur such as twinning, excessive disorder, etc., additional time will be needed for analysis. This will be charged as additional consultation time. Such additional consultation time will be incurred only following discussion of the problem with the person funding the determination.
Testing of crystals on the diffractometer which does not result in data collection will be billed as consultation time at the hourly rate, with a minimum charge of 1 hour. Visual inspection and evaluation of crystals for quality will continue to be free of charge.
4) USER STRUCTURES
a) Evaluation: Authorized users will be charged for instrument usage for crystal evaluation at 1/5th of the labor rate. Minimum usage is one hour. Users will be expected to fill out a work order each time they use a diffractometer and accurately log their time on the instruments. Evaluation which leads immediately to data collection is included in the price of data collection.
b) Data Collection: If data for a structure is collected, the cost of the collection will be billed as 5.0 hours, without regargd to actual time spent collecting data. The billing for data collection includes free computer usage to reduce the data and solve the structure. Users are expected to reduce their data promptly and to solve structures and check out in a reasonable time period. DAT tapes for raw data backup are available in 32 Lewis.
c) Starting 1 July, 1997, billing for data collection and structure solution will be in the next billing cycle regardless of when the structure is finally checked out. It is the responsibility of the student and his/her professor to see that structures are checked out in a timely fashion.
5) GENERAL USE COMPUTER ACCOUNTS
General use accounts on the CHEXRAY computers will be billed at 5 hours ($240) for a year of computer usage. (General use accounts are limited to activity which does not impact the use of the equipment for crystal structure determination.)
6) CAMBRIDGE STRUCTURAL DATABASE
There will continue to be no charge for use of the CSD. Please remember that information from the CSD must be used for non-commercial purposes only, and that you should keep the disk file area cleaned up.
