Course Text: Stout and Jensen "X-ray Structure Determination: A Practical
Guide" 2nd edition. Supplementary introduction: Sands "Introduction
to Crystallography"
Reference Texts: Dunitz "X-ray Analysis and the Structure of Organic Molecules"
Ladd and Palmer "Structure Determination by X-ray Crystallography"
Lectures: Monday, Wednesday; 11-12, 105 Stanley Hall
Laboratory: Monday, Wednesday; 1-5; CHEXRAY Facility, Room 32 Lewis Hall
Significant dates: 22 January, 2003 First Class Session
Grades: Letter grades will be
assigned if requested. Standard grading is S or U. Grading will be:
each midterm, 100 pts; homework, 200 pts, final presentation and
written report of structure, 100 pts. Total: 500 pts. The homework and
its grading are intended to aid your mastery of the material. Please
work on the assignments with that aim in mind. A passing grade is a
necessary, but not always sufficient, condition for being checked out
