CREATING YOUR USER ACCOUNT ( Ver. 1.72, May, 2005)

The procedure for creating your user account is as follows:

login to BlueCHEX from any terminal with

user name = makeuser

password = latimer

(Note: This login must actually connect you to BlueCHEX to properly create the account;
the pulldown for BlueCHEX on the X-terminals will do this.)

This login will never get you to the system prompt. Instead, the computer will automatically run a procedure which will ask you for various information, check it to make sure there isn't a duplicate account or directory anywhere and create the account and directory.

The information you will be asked for will include:

your proposed accountname [no spaces, at least four characters]

your last_name [no spaces]

your professor's_last_name [no spaces]

and the charge_account [four digit number account].

The system will then create your new user account and ask if you want to see your data. It is probably a good idea to check it at least a little bit to make sure you don't have a typographical error in your password.

All created accounts will automatically be reported to Dr. Hollander. You must have filled out a work order sheet for the structure before you do this procedure. This procedure does not substitute for filling out the workorder.

Some common errors will be recognized and you will be asked to correct them, other common errors cause the procedure to logout or to recycle without warning messages.

You can abort the creation process at any point by hitting <CTRL/C> or <CTRL/Y> and retry by logging in again.

This procedure has been set up for the convenience of users. It is to be used only to create accounts for the analysis of crystal structures on data sets taken here. It should not to be used for creation of general use accounts, class accounts, or for any other purpose. Abuse of the privilege will lead to its cancellation.

Now move on to transferring your data
